Heron in the Pond - limited palette

This is a quick study/challenge to paint a scene using 2 complementary colors. I chose the Yellow Green/Red violet combination (plus white).

I decided not to do a larger painting yet

 

I spent all night scanning through my digital pics until I finally came across this picture I took in 2008.  I knew it was there somewhere, and I've been waiting (on what?) to paint this for some time!  I'll do a small practice version before I attack a larger canvas.

I didn't plan this one very well.  In the end I didn't like the curve of the lake in the foreground, and I should've made the tree smaller so it wasn't squished up against the top.  Also, it seems like two paintings, a landscape, and a Dr. Suess scape!  Just for practice, so that's ok!
